IIM Ahmedabad is one of the best business schools in India. It tops the Indian B-school rankings 2006 conducted by Business Today. Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad was established in 1961 as an autonomous body with the active collaboration of the Government of India, Government of Gujarat, and industry. Famous scientist Dr Vikram Sarabhai was one of the persons who were instrumental in setting up of IIM Ahmedabad.Admissions to IIM Ahmedabad are done on the basis of Common Admission Test (CAT), and subsequent rounds of personal interviews and group discussions. Various programmes offered by IIM Ahmedabad are:Post Graduate Programme in Management: It is the most prestigious curriculum at IIM Ahmedabad. IIM Ahmedabad selects about 250 students from among the over 100,000 candidates who apply to the Post Graduate Programme in Business Management. The programme duration is of two years and the core programme consists of 25 courses encompassing 21.75 credits of which two are offered in the second year. One of the highlights of the programme is the exchange programmes that the institute has initiated with more than twenty-five foreign Institutions of equal repute. Every year the Institute selects about a quarter of the students to spend one term at some of these institutes. The students get to benefit from the rich exposure that they receive. Another important aspect of the programme is the Summer internship. The eight-week Summer internship provides the students an opportunity to work with reputed companies from various sectors where they get to put their ideas and skills to real situations.Post-Graduate Programme in Agri-Business Management (PGP-ABM): It is a full-time two year residential programme designed to prepare students for careers in management related to agriculture, food, agri-business, rural and allied sectors of the economy. Admissions to PGP-ABM are done on the basis of CAT and every year 30 students are selected for the programme.Post Graduate Programme in Public Management and Policy (PGP-PMP): It is a one-year full time residential programme for mid-career executives with at least 7 years of work experience. Candidates are selected on the basis of GMAT / CAT score. Those without GMAT/GRE/CAT are short listed on the basis of application rating for a specially designed test at IIM Ahmedabad.Post-Graduate Programme in Management for Executives (PGPX): It is a one-year full time residential programme for executives with substantial work experience. The objective of the programme is to develop bright, enthusiastic, and aspirational executives into management leaders. Candidates are selected through a rigorous admissions process that includes GMAT, leadership profiling and personal interviews.Faculty Development Programme (FDP): This programme is specially designed for teachers, researchers, and trainers in HRD, training colleges and industrial organizations for their management education requirements. Candidates seeking admission to the course should have post-graduate level teaching experience or industrial/research experience, of at least two years. Candidates are selected on the teaching and/or research experience, level of preparedness for the programme as indicated by educational qualifications, and statements of purpose and anticipated benefits to sponsors.Fellow Programme in Management (FPM): This the doctoral programme of the IIM, Ahmedabad. The programme offers research training in ten areas of specialization. Students generally take four to five years to complete their doctoral studies including two years of rigorous course work.
